Caving with Outdoor Education and Training Centres
One way to introduce people to the activity of caving, and the science of speleology is via a caving trip with an Outdoor Education Centre (OEC/OETC) or Activity Centre.
In Ireland these are primarily run under the Education and Training Board Ireland, details of OETC’s can be found on their site:
https://www.etbi.ie/outdoor-education/
OETC’s known to provide caving excursions include:
- Burren Outdoor Education and Training Centre
- Petersburg Outdoor Education and Training Centre
In Northern Ireland the Education Authority for Northern Ireland has an Outdoor Education Centre at Gortatole, details available on their website: https://www.eani.org.uk/gortatole-outdoor-learning-centre
In addition to Outdoor Education Centres, some activity centres in major caving areas may also offer experiences caving. The Belfast Activity Centre also features an artificially manufactured cave environment to simulate the experience.
