SUICRO Workshop
Paperless Cave Surveying
Paperless surveying is becoming more and more widely used for cave surveying. Smartphone/PDA and stylus takes the place of paper and pencil. A real-time, scaled centreline pops up automatically on your screen, around which you draw your walls and passage. Used properly, it can save time and can allow blunders to be identified and fixed immediately before leaving the cave.
This workshop will focus on hardware (DistoX vs Suunto/Tape) and a number of freely available cave survey apps (TopoDroid, PocketTopo, SexyTopo, Qave). Ideally, we will have a few groups so that we can compare each during an underground session. Following the underground session, we will look at data handling and processing software options.
Note this isn’t a workshop on how to draw a survey. Some experience of paperless surveying is desirable – but if spaces are available then you won’t be turned away!
To sign up please email Axel Hack at axel.hack@ahjourney.de or Stephen McNamara stephen.macnamara@gmail.com by SUNDAY 20th OCTOBER so we can arrange what equipment or software is being brought.
