Use of White Fathers cave

Published by Secretary on

A report is currently being compiled for Cavan County Council as part on the Geopark programme for the conservation of White Fathers cave at Loughan House near Blacklion. The conservation plan is directed to establishing baseline conservation parameters, current levels of usage of the caves and establishing research areas to ensure that the environmental interest in the caves is maintained and protected. Areas to be addressed will include the integrity of the site, potentially impacting surface activities, Daubentons’ and other bat populations, water quality etc. The authors of the reports wish to stress that access to the cave for cavers will not be restricted but wanted to get an idea of usage.

To that end, if cavers could please reply to info@caving.ie and let me know the frequency of trips and caver numbers as soon as possible as the reporting date is quite soon.
