The Speleological Union of Ireland and Irish Cave Rescue Organisation are holding the 26th annual SUICRO Symposium in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim. The event is being held at the Ramada Hotel over the Irish bank holiday weekend of the 23rd -25th October 2010.

Drumshanbo is just a 35-minute drive from caves in counties Cavan, Leitrim, Fermanagh, Roscommon and Sligo.  The hotel is located in the southern shore of Lough Allen and is surrounded by uplands rising to over 500m. For those not caving there are several way marked walks in the area including the Sliabh an Iarainn Way, the Arigna Miners Way, the Leitrim Way and the Cavan Way. There is also the Arigna Mine Experience and an extensive Canal network that links the Shannon and Erne waterways.

There is a full line up of speakers for SUICRO 2010 comprising of visiting cavers and Irish cavers. Presentations scheduled so far include a mix of overseas expeditions, recent and historical cave discoveries and cave rescue. On the Saturday night Gavin Newman shall be showing an audiovisual delight from his recent caving expeditions. Whilst, on the Sunday Jack Grandley will be presenting from his experiences with cave rescue in the United States. Tim and Pam Fogg shall be presenting on their recent expeditions overseas, whilst Artur Kozlowski, Al Kennedy and the Clare Caving Club will be presenting on recent discoveries in counties Clare and Fermanagh. John Kelly will be presenting a history of exploration in the marble Arch Cave system.

As usual the weekends proceedings will include the monster raffle, the Sunday quiz, the SUI AGM, the ICRO AGM and the open forum. Unfortunately, the clocks will already have gone back before the SUICRO weekend but that won’t reduce the opening hours at the bar.
