Many thanks to all who attended the EGM of the SUI on Saturday 24th May at Aillwee Caves and to Dr Tiernan Henry who delivered an excellent talk on the Hydrogeology of Bellharbour providing inspiration for digging on the fault structure at the west of the valley!

The SUI Cave Photography Workshop is on the move! The new date for the workshop is on the afternoon of Saturday 25th October during SUICRO 30 in Cahir, Co Tipperary. The workshop will consist of a classroom session followed by a short underground trip to practice in the nearby caves. Entrance to the workshop is free to SUI members. Cost for non-members is 10 euro. A prize for the best photograph taken at the workshop will be announced during the SUICRO Photography Competition. To book your place or to find out more email email@example.com
The SUI is pleased to announce it is running an assessment day for Basic Cave Leader (BCL) award candidates in Co Clare on Saturday June 14th 2014. The assessment is open to those who have completed the BCL training weekend. Places are limited so if you want to complete the award please contact SUI ASAP to secure your position! BCL is part of the SUI’s Training Framework. For further details including cost and log book submission email firstname.lastname@example.org
In certain cases SUI has a facility to recognize the prior experience and learning of experienced cavers and members of the SUI. This is to allow applicants to the training courses (BCL, CL) to be exempted from course pre- requisites so as to facilitate them in taking the training or assessment.
The SUI also offers this process in order to recognise qualifications gained through another caving association(e.g. BCA etc.) or national governing body for the purposes of placing these individuals straight on to the appropriate level in the SUI training framework
This facility is open to SUI members only: the application form is available online in the members only section
The next ICRO major rescue practice will be on Saturday, 27th February in Co. Fermanagh.
Please meet in the ICRO Cladagh Glen Rescue Store at 9:30 a.m. All members of ICRO who hold appropriate insurance (e.g. FFS, BMC) are welcome to attend. Please bring SRT & caving gear.
NB – On this rescue, ICRO will be formally assessed for NIMCRCC by Dave Garman of N. Yorkshire CRO, who will be observing the operation above & below ground. A good (& punctual) turnout would be appreciated.
Committee members & wardens: there will be an ICRO meeting after the practice. More details to follow closer to the date. Sunday 28th February will be a stores day. Please let the ICRO Secretary know your availability for the above dates.
There will be a Communications Course on January 30-31st in the Burren Outdoor Education Centre in Clare. Saturday will consist of looking at the different communication systems used by ICRO, their practical applications and correct radio terminology. Sunday will involve a practical, which will most likely take place in one of the ‘problem’ caves in the area.
Please contact the ICRO Training Officer to secure a place.
