SUI & ICRO at Dive Ireland 2013

On Saturday 2nd of March Dr John Duncan (Chairman SUI), Jason Masterson (Chairman ICRO) and Jim Warny (SUI Member & Diving Officer of ICRO) attended Dive Ireland 2013 to deliver a talk entitled ‘Caves, Cave Diving & Rescues’.  Dive Ireland is the annual conference for the sport of open water diving in Ireland and regularly attracts large numbers of delegates.  The talk delivered by SUI/ICRO focused on the nature of caves and caving in Ireland followed by a round up of the cave diving scene in Ireland and an explanation of the current set up of ICRO and rescue capabilities where they relate to cave diving.  Based on feedback obtained the talk was very well received and open water divers were invited to engage with both SUI & ICRO for the purposes of getting involved in cave diving and rescues and it is hoped that some of the divers will attend SUICRO 2013 in October to learn more

Try Caving 2013 a success!

Over the weekend of 2nd – 3rd March the SUI launched their Try Caving Weekend 2013.  The events were hosted by the members of the Clare Caving Club and Shannon Caving Group in Co Clare and Co Fermanagh respectively and attracted a great deal of attention thanks to advertising in the local press.  In total 5 caving trips were run introducing complete beginners to the sport and least some of these novices will now hopefully continue their caving in the clubs concerned.  Thanks to the members of both clubs concerned and to the SUI’s Development Officer Gaelan Elliffe for making the event such a success
