The 17th Annual Irish Student Caving Forum is being organised by the members of University College Dublin Caving and Potholing Club with support from the SUI and is being held in Doolin, Co Clare from Friday 29th March til Monday 1st April. The weekend will involve caving trips as well as a talks programme, quiz, drunken student antics and a number of other events. The SUI is pleased to announce the publication of its policy on placing fixed anchors in Irish caves. It includes a conservation statement on fixed aid placement, good practice statements on fixed anchor placement and details of the resin anchor scheme. the policy can be found here.
Want to try caving? Dont know how to go about it? The SUI is pleased to announce their Try Caving Weekend on 2nd til 3rd March 2013. The event is open to people of 18 and over, is free to attendees and will include a short talk on caving and the SUI as well as a beginners caving trip of course led by experienced cavers. Two events will be run over the weekend: one in the Burren region of Co Clare and one in Co Fermanagh. Basic equipment will be available for loan so come and have a go!
